“The single most important thing I’ve ever learned about awakening is that it only happens Here/Now.” —Joan Tollifson
“I hope everyone in Nonduality Land is aware of One The Magazine. As a new subscriber I see that you’ve created a beautiful container for the diversity of nondual teachings, a crystal vase holding many wildly different flowers, each sipping the same water (Jan Barendrecht’s metaphor).
There’s no single ‘center’ in the world of nonduality, nor should there be, but it looks like your publication will come close to being it!” — Jerry Katz
There is the possibility in every human life when for an instant the illusion of existing as a separate entity simply vanishes. A veil is lifted and somehow, miraculously, all of life is experienced as one seamless unified reality, and you recognize without a doubt that the truth of who you are is this one reality. Never again can you truly deny that not only are you intimately connected with every human heart and with all of life, at the core you are the fabric of life itself. —Shanti Einolander, founder/editor of ONE
by Miranda Macpherson
At the tender of thirteen, Miranda Macpherson experienced a classic dark night of the soul and was admitted into an adult psychiatric unit. There a spontaneous surrender occurred that opened to a ground of reality she now calls “boundless love.” Years later, this realization deepened beyond measure while meditating in the cave of Ramana Maharshi in southern India. Here she shares all that occurred and how it has led to her life’s work. (more…)
by John Sherman
A revolutionary agitator, saboteur, and bank robber in the 60s and 70s, John Sherman was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list for two and a half years. Captured in 1981, he served over 18 years in federal penitentiaries. In 1994, in a prison in Colorado, he spent more than a year in the fully open awareness of spiritual awakening, which collapsed suddenly and left him bereft. Three years later, shortly before his release, he found true freedom by means of an extremely simple act of attention. (more…)
by Vicki Woodyard
Vicki Woodyard lost her beloved daughter, her husband, and her spiritual teacher to cancer. Grief carved out a space in her soul until nothing was left but freedom—freedom to live, to love, to write. As she shares, “Brokenness is my field of knowing. It’s where I earned my chops. Where I get my street cred as a non-dualist.” Vicki is as real and authentic as it gets, grounding any lofty experience of nonduality into the gritty immediacy of everyday life. (more…)
by John Ptacek
John Ptacek poignantly illustrates how much of our life’s experience is obscured or lost in endless, useless, commentaries of the mind. “Why do I drop whatever I’m doing,” he reflects, “to indulge my racing thoughts as if I were a doctor responding to a life and death emergency? Because it is a matter of life and death: the death of me—a thought-induced me—the whimsical invention of my whirring mental machinery.” (more…)
by Thomas Razzeto
Here Thomas Razzeto shares how San Quentin prison’s death by lethal injection of Tookie Williams shook him to the core. As the true horror of our so-called “correctional” institution’s practice of the death penalty infiltrated his being, and as he was swept away in grief by the tragedy of a twisted justice system’s support of the further taking of life rather than rehabilitation, the unmitigated peace of freedom that knows no bounds dawned within his soul. (more…)
by Andrew Storm
Andrew Storm’s spiritual journey has been not without it’s challenges, including an unusual and for many years undetected nutritional deficiency that resulted in psychosis and the need for medication. Yet Andrew’s longing for truth and deep sense of devotion eventually led him to Gangaji and the lineage of Ramana Maharshi and Papaji. There his realization matured and stabilized until now he has “little interest in anything other than staying with this quiet presence.” (more…)
The great whales hold a place of importance on our planet beyond our capacity to apprehend. And they face more serious threats today than at any time in the last 100 years. If they are going to survive, they will need people to speak and work on their behalf. This article features an 8-minute video of an intimate encounter with a giant humpback and her rescue from a slow and agonizing death.
